I’ve been using Apache 2.2 for quite some time.\u00a0 Lately I’ve noticed CentOS and other distros using Apache 2.4.\u00a0 The new Apache breaks a bunch of stuff, as does newer php.<\/p>\n

One thing that needed changing is a switch in directory listing tools.\u00a0 I have an archive on my web site that is running Scott Evan’s Indices<\/a> software.\u00a0 It’s just a prettifier for file listings but it worked well and was easy to set up and configure for my personal taste.\u00a0 But this doesn’t work on Apache 2.4 for some reason.\u00a0 I haven’t figured out why.\u00a0 However I did find an alternative that works.<\/p>\n

h5ai<\/a> provides more functionality out of the box and is even easier to configure: copy a directory to your document root and add a new path entry to the default DirectoryIndex.\u00a0 I don’t have an example of this because so far I’m just using it behind a firewall at work.\u00a0 But it’s quite nice.\u00a0 Still need to look into customization options.\u00a0 But out of the box it’s quite useful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
