{"id":514,"date":"2009-07-07T08:13:12","date_gmt":"2009-07-07T15:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.graphics-muse.org\/wp\/?p=514"},"modified":"2009-07-07T08:13:12","modified_gmt":"2009-07-07T15:13:12","slug":"switching-from-avis-to-dvd-isos-for-use-with-mythtv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.graphics-muse.org\/wp\/?p=514","title":{"rendered":"Switching from AVI&#8217;s to DVD ISOs for use with MythTV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the upgrade to F11 I&#8217;ve discovered that when I install a DVD GNOME automatically mounts it with an option (right click on the desktop icon) for copying the DVD to an iso image.\u00a0 The ISO is typically 4-8GB which is roughly 3-4 times the size of the AVI files I&#8217;ve been creating with <a href=\"http:\/\/untrepid.com\/acidrip\/\">AcidRip<\/a>.\u00a0 The thing about ripping to AVI files is the time.\u00a0 A typical rip can take an hour or more.\u00a0 Copying the DVD to an ISO takes about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>GNOME uses a tool called <a href=\"http:\/\/projects.gnome.org\/brasero\/\">Brasero<\/a> to copy the images.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t work on all DVDs, however.\u00a0 In the first batch of about 20 or so movies I ran into a few that failed the copy.\u00a0 It&#8217;s unclear why they failed, but using<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">dd if=&lt;device file&gt;
