Web design for fun and profit

I’ve agreed to do my first commercial web site outside of my own and my wife’s. She has a customer with a small business providing chocolate fountains for parties. She also just happens to live just down the street. Anyway, someone else in the neighborhood did her web site but used some WYSIWYG template generator to do it. The site looks like something the EPA might put up explaining the process for removing chemicals from ground water. In other words, its totally off focus to her business.

So I’m going to redo the site based on my wife’s design of a trifold flyer done for that customer. It shouldn’t take long. The hardest part will probably be getting access to her web hosting site. I just hope they don’t expect FrontPage or other crap like that. If so, I’ll have to move her domain to my servers.

And I’m definitely not using a template factory. I can code the whole thing in XHTML and CSS manually in about a 1/10th the time it took the other guy to do it. And it will be far more focused on her business.

Thanks, Eric Meyer and Zen Garden, for showing me how its done.
