Decoding a Hanso clue (re: fun with Lost)

I was digging around the ABC website tonight after the season finale, rumaging through the forums. I found a link to The Lost Experience Blogspot and started reading. In there was a clue posted on the Hanso site (which I can't read with firefox for some reason – Arggghhh). There is a great deal of discussion on this picture and a clue about how we should “read” it and “decode” it.

Being the intrepid boy reporter I am, I downloaded the image and ran in through the gimp. I found that when the image is decomposed into HSV you get this interesting picture:

Hole2 image in Hue channel only

There is obviously some unusual data on the edges of the photograph of Marvin (actually I don't remember the scientist's name). I don't have the steganography plugin for the GIMP compiled or I'd try to pull the data out that way.

But this unusual data isn't the only thing that was funny about this picture. I might be seeing too much here, but if I combine the Saturation channel with the Hue channel it looks like there might be some lettering on the wall behind this guy.

Hue and Saturation show letters on the wall behind the man.

So maybe this is just more of the stenganographic information. Or maybe the letters by the guys ear are “JA”, as in Jack?

Let the conspiracy theories run wild.
