My name is Michael J. Hammel. I’m an embedded Linux developer by day who also happens to be an author, a graphic artist, web designer and independent software developer at night. I currently live with my wife Brinda and Reba, Bailey and Cody, the three most wonderful golden retrievers in the world, in Broomfield, CO., just outside of Boulder.
I write for various magazines, mostly about Linux-related topics, and I have written multiple books. My last book on the GIMP – The Artists Guide to GIMP Effects, was released in early 2011 from No Starch Press. I’ve spoken at the ALS, LinuxWorld and SXSW conferences, various local open source and Linux-oriented user groups and chaired multiple conferences on Linux in Colorado.
Currently I’m spending a great deal of my spare time working on PiBox, a custom Linux distribution and media center for the Raspberry Pi. PiBox is evolving into a voice activated home automation center and already has a kiosk mode.
If you’ve got a question about Linux, from the kernel to distributions to user interface development, feel free to drop me a line.
If you’ve got a question about anything related to Windows or Macs, look elsewhere. This space is for Penguins.
